All green fingers out there... Small flies living in compost? Attacking plants?

Yup, i have encountered this several times, using the same cheap compost!. So, when i repotted, i went for the more expensive reliable compost, and hey presto, no more lil pests!. It did cost more money and i had to throw away a few of the plants, but some of them i saved. The lil fly things are a nuisance and hard to get rid of if you keep the plant. Before re-potting, check the roots, thoroughly but gently for any more "flies". They are the same type you get if you have some rotten potatoes you'd forgotten about(hands up, guilty of that one, lol). Try not to repot your plants to often though, so place them in a larger pot. Hope this helps.

Can you really go wrong with manure or compost as a fertilizer over planting areas?

Some plants fix nitrogen (ie: legume) so you dont need manure, and if you want flowers add phosphorous such as fire ash.

I've stopped feeling emotion..?

I know I won't get a definite diagnosis or anything here, but I'm just looking for some ideas. I've stopped being able to feel emotion. Now I "hear" emotions, rather than feeling them. I basically have to "contact" my brain, and my brain speaks the emotion I should be feeling. It's not an autonomic function anymore, I consciously have to have a conversation with myself to determine an emotional response. This may be a dumb question, but is this normal? And if not, what is it?

I made a friend this year, and at first that's all he was, a really good friend and I liked another guy at the time and he had a girlfriend. And he and his girlfriend were "on a break" and the guy I liked didn't like me back. So, he started giving me some BS like "I feel different with you, I can talk to you about anything" but I sort of fell for it, and we started doing boyfriend/girlfriend 'stuff' (wink, wink) then, he started telling me he loved me after the but he wouldn't leave him current girlfriend (they're back together now) so I said "ok, fine. Lets just be friends" so, I just went back to like before, but whenever I'd start talking to him about a guy I think is cute or something like that, he starts pouting and saying "I knew you'd stop liking me, see? you don't love me anymore" and I'm not gonna lie so I said "Of course i still love you, you're like my big brother." Then my mom bought me this book, "Why Men Marry ********* E S" (you girls should seriously read it, it's so empowering and its entertaining to read) and the writer interviews some guys on how a girl can tell if a relationship is just short term, or how she can tell if he's a con artist. And I compared it to him* and the book is SO RIGHT! My gut has always told me he just wanted , and I told him to just tell me cause "I don't care, just don't want you lying to me" and he kept saying "It's not just , I love you, and I wanna show my affection" and the reason why he won't tell me the truth or he isn't letting me like other guys is because he's keeping me on his "reserves" list, and I'm getting pissed off, this book just pushed me to see the light. So I know most of you are gonna say "cut him out of my life" but, he's still a good friend, and I wanna keep him there AS A FRIEND, but he keeps giving me mushy, lovey BS. I gotta say A) the constant weight gain. He's from Oxnard, California which is maybe 20 miles from where i live, and there is almost nothing to do out there but eat, sleep, and have , i'm not even joking either he's from a farm town, i don't like him at all because he always talks about how he had a rough life and he grew up in a bad neighborhood and to be honest i have never seen any part of Oxnard that closely resembles that at all. No, the qualities of the guides seem pretty clever. I especially like the lazy eye thing, and the fact that they don't care about gender, very unique. And anyway, how you write the story dictates whether the character is a Mary Sue or not. My parents hosted my wedding in May of 2006 and we had alot of good family friends that helped out. It was wonderful, and I appreciated everything that was done for us, however it was problematic in one very important aspect. Hello, well I have been experiencing this phenomenon that I go to sleep but then I wake up conscious but unable to move nor speak. I have this for a very long time, every night. It is very frustrating because its creepy as hell. Its like paranormal activity yup very creepy. I open my eyes and there is someone there watching me,its staring face to face. I am unable to punch it or something to talk to it. i pray for it to go away and it eventually does. i already know what rem is, and that sleep paralyzed crap. I have done my research so none of that science sh**. Its like its following me. Even my girlfriend has felt it with me when she is with me. I am scared of darkness, being in the night because strange things happen to me. Its not my imagination because I can feel it and people that are with me can also feel it. He and Diane recently got back in contact before he filed for divorce, Diane has recently filed for divorce and moved from her home state to FL, the state in while my parents currently live to help support her parents, who retired down to FL. She and my father started dating again while my mother went to rehab, and my mother moved to a halfway house in February. I recently got a call from my mother saying that the halfway house she was staying in put all her belonging she had with her in storage and dropped her out because she had finished her program, but as her bills had not been paid the house would hold her stuff until the bill was paid. I called my father, whom I had recently loaned a large amount of money to, only to find he was at a show with Diane, while my mothers belongings were locked up and she was staying with my cousin while he was out having a good time instead of paying the bills. My father wound up paying the bills a few days later, but 2 days ago I got a call from my mother saying that my father bought Diane a set of golf clubs and had them sent to the office; not Diane's home, where it would have been more appropriate, but to the office in which my mother works. She had to sign for the package. My sister still lives at home; I am in the Navy and stationed in Virginia, so I don't get home much- all information I get is mostly second hand.My sister is going to college supported by my father.; he pays her car payments and she goes to school. Today my sister called me saying our father had sort of kicked her out. He was late on a car payment (I still have not gotten back the money I loaned him), so she asked about it. He'd had a bad day at work, understandably, but when she brought up the fact that instead of paying the car payment on time (not the first time he's been late) and bought Diane a set of golf clubs, and spent $400 dollars on tickets to yet another show, instead of paying the bills, my father blew up. He told her to pack her things and find a job, a way to pay for school and a place to stay because he was going to put the house up for sale. My mother is currently staying with a cousin because our father has brought Diane into the house to stay overnight from time to time, maybe once a week; my mothers things are still in the closet, her makeup is in the bathroom, and she still works with my father. She does not want to encounter Diane, and I do not blame her. My sister was supposed to take a trip this weekend with her girlfriend and my father and Diane to Flagler. My sister expressed that she was uncomfortable, Diane must have sensed this, because she (Diane) told my father that my sister seemed uncomfortable, and they called off the trip. Since Diane clearly cant win over my sister that easily, I am afraid she may turn to me when I travel down there next week for Pover. Is there a way to be diplomatic and polite about this without arousing my fathers ire? I am not comfortable with the situation, and I have not been home to see this first hand.

That really depends on the baby.Does the baby have any teeth yet?How has it done with the gerber 1st foods?And does the baby seem to need more then what you are giving it so far.If it has some teeth and has no problem eating the baby food its eating now then I would try the next step.The great thing about the gerber 2 is that not all of has chunks in it.Some of it is just like the 1st food its just thicker.So look around and buy a jar and try it out.Good Luck!

Car battery won't start and is newer and has never died before!!?

I just got my truck a couple of months ago from 5 star ford and they had slapped a new battery and everything on. A couple of weeks ago, one of the cables on the battery mysteriously became loose and had to tighten it back on. Just yesterday, went out to the truck, none of the lights were left on and the doors were closed all the way, and the battery was dead. The cord was a little loose again so I tightened it again. I tried jump starting it for about 15 mins, letting it sit and charge. The past week it was giving me a bit of hesitation to start when it would sit for awhile. Could someone give me any advice?? I'm thinking to just buy a new battery but is that really possible or common to have a brand new battery that has never died before to just give out?? I really appreciate any advice.

Which weekend trip would you choose: San Francisco, Monterey, or Vegas?

I am very familiar with all three places (I live in the SF area). That is a really difficult decision because they are all fun. If you're driving and you only have 3 days, it would be rushed to see all the sites on the way to/from San Francisco and spend a decent amount of time in the city. Monterey is fun in the winter, you can rent a hotel with a fireplace in it, very romantic. Vegas is always way fun and lots to do. I guess I'd pick Monterey for a 3 day trip.

I want to be built but in shape for the Army Basic Combat Training?

Yah, Uh stop running 20-25 miles a week. lol. I was in the army, and basic training is pretty easy physical wise. The most they ever run is 2-4 miles every other day. The days in between are pushups situps type stuff. Not hard. The pace of runs isnt fast at all unless your in alpha group ( the fastest runners) . Just look up the army standard for your age group- for the apft run and make sure you can at least run that fast for 2 miles. Your overdoing it. Keep working out. Eat non processed lower fat stuff . The runs are mostly about a steady pace not super far or fast. Oh and for an insider hint when you first get to basic and they test you for the first time- dont run as fast as you can- take a steady slower pace. If you get put in the fastest group- which they asign you to based on your run times for the first test- it will suck and you wont be able to switch out. Cardio and lifting can and do go hand in hand as long as you dont overdo the cardio.

As they get older, they will see that you are consistent in your actions and that you are a responsible parent. Your older daughter can be your best ambador. I think you need to maintain a solid relationship with her and be honest with her about any questions she may have as it pertains to your divorce. Young children can not rationalize good enough to understand the issues but your old daughter can, and you should keep an open line of communication with her. After all, she could end up going down the same path with her life. I think it is important that she understand that it takes two, it takes compromise and it takes a willingness to work with your partner in order to have a fulfilling and fruitful life. Remember, her little sister will look up to her and will believe what she says because most younger siblings want to be like their older siblings. This gives you the power their mom can not do anything about. If she starts to blast her, then the younger one will start doubting the mom. Help! Holding in sadness?

I'm the type of person who holds in my sadness, tiredness, and anger. I put on a happy face in order to make the people around me happy, but deep inside I feel like exploding. So I was pulled over for speeding in California in march of 2010 (i was 17). The officer proceeded by searching my car due to probable cause and found a small amount of marijuana. He gave me a court date. I showed up at court and the judge gave me a choice of having my license suspended for a year or doing 40 hours of community service and 2 AA cles so i can keep my license. I did the hours and the cles and got my license back. But on July of 2010, the same thing happened and marijuana was found (still 17). Sounds like it's time to move. Living in a house is the only way to go. I do have an inconsiderate neighbour though, he's got this nasty small pond in his backyard that is disgusting. I don't know anything about surgery etc. to fix it, but honestly I don't see what's wrong with it. Continued rescued 3 year old yorkie from a puppy mill,let me add a few things.?

There was alot of dogs taken in the seize.Not all were so lucky.The people had kids,ranging from real young to teens.The girls young and teen of the family played with them and loved on them.They were in large outdoor kennel pens.It was 1 male and 4 females in each,with seperate dog boxes.They've been working with all of the dogs and a few have been adopted out.Some had health problems,some were pregnant and waiting to either have pups or be spayed before adoption.All are being spayed/nueterd before allowed to adopt.Are being examined and given vaxines before leaving.They are working with them as far as interacting and socializing with humans before allowing adoption.They've already nuetered the one I'm getting,I've visited him a few times to let him get used to me.He acts unsure,not really scared just unsure.Once you start to pet him he's seems to be ok.He doesn't like to be picked up much.He already had a collar on,so he's used to that.He will lead but doesn't like it.He's not aggressive with his food,treats is another story.His hair is actually in fair shape.They gave him a puppy cut,he will have to have another bath though.I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice and had been in the same or similar situation.Or if there was anything with the yorkie breed I need to watch out for.And to add a comment to a earlier response,every dog should know true love,regardless if some humans don't,all my dogs know they are loved,and safe,sometimes I wonder if they still know their dogs,but hopefully with time this little guy will to know true love.All dogs deserve to be treated with care,love,kindness,understanding,comp… thoughtfullness,no matter their breed,age,gender,looks,bloodlines,and so forth.Its not the dogs fault,its the worthless humans that bred them or let them get in the unfortunate situation their in.

Mosquito Bites!?

My son goes camping with his father over the weekend and his dad drops him off with about 15 mosquito bites on his body,this happened last weekend as well.I went to the store and bought some cream to subside the itching, but he was up half the nite itching! I'm only suposed to apply the cream once every 4hrs. I am also worried about the west nile virus, although he has no symptoms of that THANK GOD! Is there a good bug repelant I can use on him and Is there a home remedy or an over the counter medicine I can try to ease his itching and take down the swelling ?

They like to please but it is very hard to train them. Its like the old saying: Dogs will come to you when you call, Cats will make you take a number and wait till they are ready. Mini Eskies are like cats in that sort of thing. They are both very cute and adorable, so you cant compare each other in that. Is my school dress code policy fair?

I think the dress code is a bit too far. I can understand the business with the short-shorts, tank tops, the sleeveless shirts, and the ripped jeans. The principal, and staff wants the students to look presentable to the cl. But with the sandals and the flip flops is going too far. I think the proper attire to wear to school on a hot day, is a T-Shirt, (as long it does not say anything vulgar or advertises alcohol/tobacco) a nice pair of shorts, but not too short. (such as athletic shorts, jean shorts, of shorts that goes down just above your kneecap) and if you want ot wear a pair of sandals, flip flops are okay, but it will be preferred to wear sandals with a heel strap, that way they stay put on your feet, and no fear of them being lost, or the student tripping since there is no support with sandals.

My cat was having very loose stools , I found when I gave him chicken and rice, all was better....went back to regular fancy feast, it started again. Living on your own is fun for a bit, but eventually you'll get lonely. Its a good experience though and if you can afford it than its worth it. Maybe you'll like it and if nothing else it will make you realize how much you take your family for granted (I did). Just make sure that they'll let you move back in if you get tired of living on your own.

Have you cleaned out your suction filter? It could be clogged with stuff. Is your diaphragm in your carburetor intact? If it's broken, that's your problem. Have you reset the rich-lean screws. Tighten them both up and open them one and a quarter turn. I had a tiller that did exactly the same thing. I reset the screws. That cured it. You might have to clean your carburetor out thoroughly if nothing else works. One final solution. Give it to a needy person and buy you another one. Buy another brand, of course. Hope you can resolve the problem rather then go shopping.

those boots are good.... i like the mountain horse ones the best though, they are most comfortable... I couldn't bring up your breeches but at beginner novice it doesn't really matter that they are white and the same at novice it won't matter.... white is just a pain to clean. I don't use stock ties really until i started training level but if your getting one get a pre-tied nonpretied are just a pain. I have that helmet and i love it! it is just fine for all three phases. A black or navy coat is best, your hunt coat should be just fine for now.

How much notice do I need to give my landlord before vacating my apartment on a month-by-month lease?

I currently rent an apartment with my wife in Los Angeles. We signed a lease when we first moved in, but this only lasted for a year. After one year the lease reverted to a month-by-month basis without us signing any additional doentation. My landlord has been giving us grief about repairs (blaming us for acts of God, calling and verbally haring me, etc.) and we've had enough. Starting tomorrow, March 25, we are going to start looking for a new place. My question is, say we find a place in the next few days, how much notice do we need to give my current landlord? The lease I initially signed reads as follows: "Renter shall give Owner 30-days written notice of intent to vacate the premises at the end of the lease term, at least 30 days before the end of the term and Renter shall be liable for payment of rent through the later of: the end of the term, the expiration of the 30-day notice or the date of vacating the premises." Does this mean apply even though I am paying month-by-month? Or will I have to pay for April regardless? Why Wii Wins?

I was talking to a Baptist man the other day who said he would not let his children read Harry Potter. We then went on to discuss other books and stories such as 'Sabrina the teenage witch', 'Bewitched' etc. He also said he would not allow them to read or watch these. From there I asked about Halloween and that was also a no no. His children could not participate in that either. Im in Australia so I guess missing out on halloween isn't as big as it would be in the USA. Still.... I've seen questions answered about Harry Potter... but Bewitched and Sabrina? Guys + miniskirts = Confusion?

From reading stuff posted here, and every day life, it seems guys love girls in miniskirts, and will look ogle them. Yet, at my school dances, I see attractive girls wearing super mini skirts and tight tank tops, and guys walk by them, and don't care, or flinch, or notice them, or even look at them. It's weird... these girls are attractive. It seems to me that because girls dress so slutty now, guys have become somewhat desensitized to skimpy dress. Is this true?? or are those guys I mentioned just weird exceptions??
